Prose & Cons is officially here!

Hi friends,

Prose & Cons is officially here.

And this Sunday, I’m taking it somewhere that feels particularly fitting.

We’re having a launch party at the fort grounds in Defiance, Ohio.

If you’ve already read the book, you probably know exactly why I chose this spot.

Prose & Cons is, at its heart, a tribute to the stewards of stories—the writers, librarians, readers, archivists, teachers, and everyone else who believes stories are worth protecting.

While I was writing it, I kept thinking about these grounds.

I grew up in northwest Ohio, and long before I was a writer, I was a kid with a very active imagination. I can’t tell you how many times I stood near the point where the Maumee and Auglaize Rivers meet and imagined that there might be something else there. A secret. A passage. A magical gateway hiding somewhere just out of sight.

Decades later, I finally put one there.

Now a place that lived in my childhood imagination lives in the pages of Prose & Cons, too.

So when I thought about where I wanted to celebrate this book, there really wasn't another choice.

Come celebrate with us where the stories and the rivers meet.

Sunday, September 20 Fort Defiance grounds • Defiance, Ohio

And if you can't join us in Ohio, there are still a few things worth celebrating from wherever you are.

Along with the Kindle and paperback editions, Prose & Cons now has a jacketed hardcover—complete with an illustrated dust jacket and a second illustrated cover hiding underneath. It's probably my favorite physical edition of any of my books so far.

And I've been spending a lot of time behind a microphone lately because the audiobook is coming soon, narrated by me. I'll share more about that as soon as it's ready.

For now, though, I'm just incredibly happy that Hannah, Solveig, Virgil, Lucy, The Feed—and a certain impossible gateway in Defiance, Ohio—finally belong to readers.

Thank you for being one of them.
